Roll a monster

I like to end our school year with silly fun drawing projects.  Kindergarten did these roll a monster drawings.  Using the dice and a handout they created their own creatures!

Popscicles

I needed some help testing out markers at the end of the year, so these 1st graders helped me by tracing and overlapping Popsicle sticks on their paper and filling in the resulting shapes.

Wild Things

First Graders read the story Where The Wild Things Are.  We were then inspired to design our own wild things.  Students also drew visual textures on their creatures and added even more texture with texture plates under their work while coloring!

Line Sculptures

Kinders have talked a lot about lines this year.  Students reviewed the different lines we learned about and then created them in three dimensions!

Hide and Seek lines

Who doesn't love a good game of hide and seek?  Kindergarten played this game in the art room by drawing white lines and shapes on a white piece of paper (almost impossible to see!)  The following class we found our lines by using watercolor over the crayons to create a watercolor resist.

Dragons

First graders learned about Chinese New Year by reading the story PoPo's Lucky New Year.  We also studied the use of dragons in Chinese culture and New Years celebrations.  Students then used symmetry and collage to design their own amazing dragons!!

Eric Carle Sea Horse

1st graders listened to the story Mr. Seahorse by Eric Carle.  Students then used their special paper that explored color mixing to create their own sea horse like Eric Carles's illustations in his book.

Robot Blueprints

Kindergartners discovered a different kind of printmaking as they stamped pieces of cardboard onto their paper.  We discussed how blueprints are plans for something you would like to build.  Each student created their own blueprint for a robot.  We put the lines stamped from our cardboard together to create shapes for our robots head, neck, arms and legs.  We they finished our robots by using recycled objects to stamp buttons, eyes and mouths!
