Koi Painting

Third graders learned about different watercolor techniques by creating 2 paintings- a wet on wet watercolor, and watercolor effects created by applying salt and removing color with a towel.  Next, they discussed the Chinese and Japanese tradition of using carp (or koi fish) in their art.  The koi is a symbol of working hard to reach ones goals as we often see this fish pushing onward to make its way upstream.  Students then used their watercolor paintings to create their own three dimensional koi art.
