Metepec Suns
Fourth Grade students discussed the tradition of pottery in Mexico by taking a closer look at the clay suns produced in Metepec. The making of pottery in this area goes back a thousand years due to the clay deposits found in the soil in Metepec. The clay suns are painted brightly and often hung outside the home as a symbol of good luck. Students looked at examples of these sun designs and were challenged to create a design of their own. Students created a collage using tagboard and covered it with foil and colored sharpies to complete their design.
