Texture Owls

A couple of my kindergarten classes were a little bit ahead of the others so we did a fun lesson on texture.  Inspired again by winter we used the snowy owl as our inspiration.  We began by looking at various textures if different animals and discussing how they might feel.  Next we discussed how artists often have to show texture without using actual textures-- but rather make something appear soft or fuzzy without ut actually being fuzzy to the touch.  By ripping our paper we gave our owl feathers more of a soft fuzzy appearance.  We collages our "feathers" together to form our owls and added more texture by sponge painting on some snow!
